Areas of Research and Interest |
My fields of research are String Theory and two dimensional conformal field theory. I am mainly interested in the study of non compact conformal field theory and its relation with the description of the dynamic of string theory on curved manifolds. Indeed, my research activities in the recent years have been focused on the study of the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model formulated on SL(2,R) group manifold and the construction of a consistent and unitary spectrum in the context of string theory in three dimensional Anti-de Sitter space-time.
Intention and personal motivation
The study of string theory beyond the supergravity approximation. The world-sheet formultation from exact two-dimensional conformal field theories.
Specifically, I have studied the free field realization of the SL(2,R) conformal theory and the range of scope of such a representation; e.g. within this context we stressed that free field realization describes features of the string theory on AdS_3 beyond the near boundary limit.
Also in relation with the Wakimoto's free field description, we studied the feasibility of the analytic continuation of the functional form of primary fields correlation function in terms of non-rational values of SL(2)-isospin; we studied the relation existing between two different screening charges in the Coulomb-gas like prescription. We also analyzed the factorization properties of the N-point functions, the role played by flowed representations and the inclusion of winding sectors within the context of the study of the relation existing between the CFT on SL(2,R) and the model formulated on the product SL(2)xU(1)/U(1). We extended our study to the case of two-dimensional black hole SL(2,R)/U(1) as well as the euclidean version of AdS_3, described by the model in the homogeneous space SL(2,C)/SU(2).
We investigated a proposal for a generalization of the Dotsenko's integral representation of conformal blocks for the non compact SL(2)_k case, including the flowed representations, which represent winding sectors.
Currently, I am interested in the study of the classification of the non perturbative effects in AdS_3, those which have been interpreted by Maldacena and Ooguri as instantons in the world-sheet CFT. Several motivations could be found as reasons to analyse the 4-point functions on SL(2,R); this is one of the topics of my recent interest. I am also interested in the sine-Liouville model and the features related with the Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov conjecture, relating strong and weak regime.
I have been working in the study of logarithmic solutions of SL(2)_k Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation, its relation with the unitarity of string spectrum in non-compact group manifolds and, in particular, its connection with the monodromy properties of Maldacena-Ooguri-Teschner factorization ansatz of the euclidean SL(2,C)/SU(2) CFT theory.
Other subjects of my interest are matters related with the geometry of the euclidean version of the two dimensional Witten's black hole (i.e. the cigar manifold SL(2,R)/U(1)) and the particular features of this subject and related topics, e.g.: the Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov conjecture, sine-Liouville CFT model, 2D quantum gravity, c=1 matter conformal model, mirror and other algebraic automorphism in the two-dimensional superconformal N=2 models (mirror symmetry staff, spectral flows, etc.), the string spectrum in the background of BTZ black hole and other orbifold constructions in AdS_3, and the formulation of the open string theory and the dynamic of AdS_2 branes in AdS_3.
Other topics of general interest
The mathematical
aspects of black hole physics and related things are also topics
of my area. Indeed, I am motivated by the study of several subjects of
mathematical physics: e.g. the application of (co)homology in the
context of string theory and other topics in algebraic topology related
with two dimensional conformal models and representation of vertex
algebra.
PostScriptum: More on String Theory on AdS3
The interest of string theory
on three dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS3) has been recently
renewed by the fact that this model raises the hope to explicitly work
out the details of the Maldacena's conjecture beyond supergravity aproximation.
In the past, the string theory on AdS3 has been extensively studied as
a toy model to investigate the consistency of string propagation on curved
spacetimes. Since this theory is described by the Wess-Zumino-Witten
model formulated on SL(2,R), the model is also a very interesting subject
within the context of non-compact conformal field theory.
Recently, there have been
several discussions about the spectrum of the WZW model on SL(2,R). The
unitarity of the theory was extensively discussed taking into account the
application to represent the spectrum of string theory; in the last years
the relevance of the flowed sectors in order to describe winding states
was pointed out by Maldacena and Ooguri. On the other hand, recent works
propose this model as an example of a logarithmic conformal field theory.

Exempli
gratia, Abstract of one of my last works
We study the solutions to the sl(2,R)_k Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation.
First, logarithmic solutions which represent four-point correlation functions describing string scattering processes on three-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space are discussed. We classify different types of logarithmic singularities arising and propose an interpretation of these. The logarithms found here fit into the usual pattern of four-point function structure of other examples of AdS/CFT correspondence and, thus, these can be interpreted as resonances in AdS_3. In addition, logarithmic solutions which are related to non perturbative (finite k) effects are found. The non perturbative effects and the operator mixing of two-particles states can be identified as the responsible phenomena of the appearence of such singularities in the four-point correlation functions.
By means of the relation existing between four-point functions in Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model formulated on SL(2,R) and certain five-point functions in Liouville quantum conformal field theory, we show how the reflection symmetry of Liouville theory induces particular automorphisms of the spactral flow symmetry of sl(2,R)_k Kac-Moody algebra. This Liouville description enables us to present a natural explanation for the arising of logarithmic singularities.
